Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Junior Bookkeeper to join our client’s accounting and advisory practice on a fully remote basis.

The ideal candidate will have 2–3 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably within an accounting or advisory practice, with strong hands-on experience using Xero and supporting UK-based clients.

You will be responsible for maintaining accurate client books and records, completing reconciliations, assisting with VAT returns and management reporting, and supporting senior accountants with year-end and tax preparation work.

Responsibilities

Maintain accurate books and financial records for clients using Xero.
Assist with chart of accounts setup and ongoing account maintenance.
Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
Manage bank feeds, reconciliations and supplier invoices.
Prepare VAT returns from client records for manager review.
Produce monthly and quarterly management reports for client review.
Liaise with line management and other personnel to obtain required source documents.
Utilise Xero and related technology to improve bookkeeping efficiencies and processes.
Support senior accountants with year-end workpapers and tax preparation.
Identify, investigate and escalate bookkeeping discrepancies and potential compliance issues.
Maintain organised and accurate records across multiple client files.
Ensure work is completed accurately and within agreed deadlines.

Required Skills

2–3 years of proven bookkeeping experience, ideally within an accounting or advisory practice.
Previous experience working with UK clients or UK accounting requirements.
Strong practical knowledge of Xero; Xero certification is advantageous.
Sound understanding of VAT and basic accounting principles.
Experience with bank reconciliations, AP, AR and management reporting.
Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
Ability to manage multiple client files and competing deadlines.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organisational and time-management skills.
Ability to work independently and effectively in a fully remote environment.
Comfortable working UK business hours.
