Job Description

We are looking for an experienced UK Bookkeeper to join our team and provide accurate, reliable bookkeeping and accounting support to UK-based clients.

The successful candidate must have hands-on experience working with UK accounting practices and UK clients, with strong knowledge of bookkeeping, VAT, bank reconciliations, financial records and UK tax requirements.

You will be responsible for maintaining accurate accounting records, processing financial transactions, preparing VAT returns, supporting tax compliance and assisting with month-end and year-end accounting procedures.

Responsibilities

Manage day-to-day bookkeeping for UK clients.
Process sales invoices and purchase invoices accurately and efficiently.
Perform bank reconciliations and account reconciliations.
Prepare and review VAT returns in accordance with UK requirements.
Assist with Corporation Tax and Self Assessment preparation.
Review financial information to ensure accuracy, completeness and compliance.
Process journals and accounting transactions.
Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies.
Maintain accurate and organised financial records, invoices, receipts and supporting documentation.
Assist with month-end and year-end procedures.
Prepare financial information and reports for statutory and accounting requirements.
Maintain accounting software, spreadsheets and financial databases.
Communicate with UK clients and HMRC where required.
Follow up on outstanding financial information and documentation.
Ensure bookkeeping records are accurate, complete and audit-ready.

Required Skills

Proven experience as a Bookkeeper within a UK accounting practice.
Direct experience working with UK clients.
Strong practical knowledge of UK bookkeeping and accounting procedures.
Experience preparing and reviewing UK VAT returns.
Understanding of HMRC requirements and UK tax compliance.
Experience supporting Corporation Tax and Self Assessment.
Strong experience with bank reconciliations, journals and financial reconciliations.
Experience processing sales and purchase invoices.
Experience supporting month-end and year-end accounting.
Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong organisational and time-management skills.
